James Lothrop of Lothrop Associates is the lead architect who has been working hard with the Library Board and staff in laying out the new building. Mr. Lothrop has designed over 50 libraries in the tri-state area, including the Hendrick Hudson Library in Montrose. Mr. Lothrop was chosen due to his outstanding reputation, his emphasis on efficiency and economy, and his tremendous foresight in planning.

New Library Details
The new Mount Kisco Library is slated to include room for the following: a circulation desk, fiction, reading room, and staff areas. the reference section, study rooms, and technology support, children and teen areas. an expanded community room and a multi-purpose room for classes and meetings. There will be two ground floor entrances are accessible from the Main Street side and the Shoppers Park side.
The new Mount Kisco Public Library will include room for the following:
- Main circulation desk, silent reading room and staff areas
- Reference section, study rooms, technology support and browsing areas for popular books and media
- Children’s room with craft and story space and teen room
- Expanded community room and a multi-purpose room from classes and meetings
- Two ground floor entrances accessible from the Main Street side and Shoppers Park side
- Central location in town with easy access to public transportation
Highlights of the new building interior include:
- Increased shelf space for books and other media.
- Access to computers placed throughout the building, with wireless internet available for patrons with laptops.
- Restrooms located upstairs and downstairs, including a baby-changing area near the children’s rooms.
- More spaces for community meetings, exhibits, and events.
- Enhanced work flow helping staff manage library tasks more efficiently, including switch between back-office tasks and interactions with the public, improved ‘lines of sight’ and an up-to-date security system.
- Entire building will be handicapped accessible
