Mission Statement
The Foundation of the Mount Kisco Public Library, Inc. was
established in 2005 to support the Mount Kisco Public Library,
its special projects, and the growing needs of the community.
Formed by local residents - with support from the Library's Board of Trustees, the Village Board, and Friends of the Library - the Foundation's role is to raise funds for special programs, services, and to help pay for the Library's new furnishings and equipment. The Foundation's goal is to raise $1 million dollars over the next two years to furnish the interior of the library and provide funds for special programs. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization.
Raising the Roof on Literacy in Mount Kisco
The Mount Kisco Public Library has served as the hub of lifelong learning in Northern Westchester. Mt. Kisco voters overwhelmingly approved an $8 million library bond proposition in November 2005, allowing the Village to replace the existing library with a new, state-of-the-art 18,000 square foot library. The library was completed in 2009 and now serves the Mount Kisco community.
In 2010, the Mount Kisco Public Library celebrated its 100th anniversary. Due to its central location in the heart of our Village, the Mount Kisco Public Library is visited regularly by residents and out-of-town patrons who stop by the library while shopping, attending a medical appointment, catching a movie, or dining.
Usage at the Mount Kisco Public Library has increased significantly in the last 5 years, with circulation up nearly 17% and the number of card holders rising by 97%. Out-of-town library card holders account for nearly 40% of the total items checked out from the Mount Kisco Public Library. The adjacent communities of Bedford Hills, Bedford Village, Chappaqua, and Katonah comprise the majority of out-of-town users; however, library patrons from Ossining, South Salem, Somers, and Shrub Oak also regularly visit the library in Mount Kisco.
